This week we will start our first novel study :) Our first novel is Freak the Mighty ! We will pick out and review key ideas and concepts of the novel throughout the story. We will continue to work on summarizing and start on character analysis. I will post notes from each chapter in the novel :) This week our focus is the short story All Summer in a Day, in our textbook.
We will specifically study setting and dialogue in this story. We will analyze how the setting drives the plot. Our story finishes abruptly, so we will write our own narrative to end our story. This provides us with an opportunity to practice writing dialogue in our own work. We will be introduced to AOWs!
AOW stands for Article of the Week This is where we dissect and analyze an article. When we do this students will learn how to comprehend a complex text and use evidence from the text to justify their reasoning. We will summarize and write extended responses using the articles and RACES. (parents ask your students to explain RACES :) ) Mon. -Screening test
Tues. - Methods for discussion and writing Wed. - Bookfair (bring money) Thurs. & Fri.- Pre-test This week will be spent getting to know one another. We will introduce you to classroom procedures and policies. Below I have attached the supply list for your convenience.
